If you are visiting Stockholm for the first time, you might get a little bit confused by the high number of airports in the city. Stockholm, which is the capital of Sweden, has four airports.
All these airports serve international and European domestic flights, meaning that your Stockholm-bound airline could be destined to land on any of these airports.
Considering this, it is important to have first-hand information about these airports before planning your trip.
The four Stockholm airports include:
- Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN)
- Stockholm Bromma Airport (BMA)
- Stockholm Vasteras Airport (VST)
- Stockholm Skavsta Airport (NYO)
Stockholm Arlanda Airport
Stockholm Arlanda is undeniably the largest and busiest international airport not only in the city but also in the entire country. The airport lies approximately 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of the city center.
It boasts of four terminals for domestic, regional and international flights. The advanced infrastructure further highlights it capability of handling over 20 million travelers every year.
Getting To and From Stockholm Arlanda Airport
Stockholm Arlanda is easily accessible and travelers may get to and from the airport using three different modes of transport. These include:
- By train
- By Bus
- With taxi
Stockholm Arlanda has a high-speed, express train service known as the Arlanda Express. The train departs from the airport to the city center every 15 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes at night.
Passengers can board the Arlanda Express using platforms 1 and 2 underneath the arrival terminals. The Express train takes only 20 minutes between the Arlanda Airport and Stockholm Central Station
Another viable alternative is the commuter train that arrives at and departs from the Arlanda Central Station, twice an hour, throughout the day. Travel time is about 43 minutes, given that the train has to stop at other stations along the way. Tickets are readily available at the airport.
The city center is also easily accessible from the airport by bus. The Flygbussarna Airport Coaches provide affordable transfer services with departures from the airport every 10 minutes, throughout the day. The approximate travel time is 45 minutes, and tickets are readily available online.

Fares are not regulated and this allows free price setting for all taxi rides in the country. Moreover, all taxis have maximum price limits for connections from Arlanda to the central business district and other parts of Stockholm.
The Bromma Airport is the third largest and busiest airport in Sweden in terms of passenger and airline traffic. Moreover, it is closest to the city center compared to the other three airports around Stockholm.
The airport is about 7.4 kilometers west of downtown Stockholm and 9 kilometers from the center of the city. This makes it very easy to get to and from the airport.
The airport is mainly used for domestic flights within the country and around Europe considering it has a short runway that cannot accommodate larger planes.
You can fly from Bromma to many Swedish cities, ranging from Sundsvall to Angelholm.
