Hotel Wilshire Suite SurpriseValentine’s Day is an annual reminder to reconnect and respect, to show your lover their importance in your life and remember what it is that you cherish… Or is it? Valentine’s Day has become an over 16 billion dollar industry. It fills men with dread and makes couples feel pressure to spend more than they can afford just to show one another that they care.

I have a better idea. (And as the author of four aphrodisiac cookbooks, I like to think I know a thing or two about this topic.)

The Hotel Wilshire, a Kimpton hotel, has put together a low-key and romance-inspiring package to give couples that all-important chance to just be together, away from distractions. Kimpton offers boutique hotel experiences that are playful, easy and affordable. At Los Angeles’ Hotel Wilshire, that experience includes a daily wine reception, a rooftop pool, bar and chef-driven restaurant and even a greeting from a friendly goldfish.

And for Valentine’s Day, the hotel has created something called a Suite Surprise, a month-long package for one of their spacious, two-room suites. Couples are greeted by a bottle of chilling Mumm Napa Rosé Sparkling Wine–a very nice choice to kick off an aphrodisiac affair–paired with dark chocolate-dipped strawberries. Your bed will be adorn with roses and your experience will include a $125 dining credit for The Roof on Wilshire, one of LA’s most popular, new restaurants by Chef Eric Greenspan. But in case you don’t want to share your special night with a restaurant full of strangers, you can use that credit for The Roof’s room service menu. That way, you can sip your complimentary bubbles and roll in your rose petals while waiting for your meal to arrive on its silver tray.

The Hotel Wilshire’s Suite Surprise package is available through the end of February, 2014 and includes free wifi (not that you’ll need it!), complimentary valet and a 2pm checkout–you’ll need it after your night of celebrating the season of love!
