Chocolate…chocolat….cioccolate….schokolade…The appeal is universal.

It is entirely possible to be seduced every which way by chocolate as this Italian city of Perugia  is transformed for the Eurochocolate Festival 2012.
Eurochocolate was created in 1982 by Eugenio Guarducci, the current president of Eurochocolate, after a night of festivity ended uncomfortably in a car instead of lodging. He was then at Octoberfest in Munich, and so envisioned a celebration of chocolate instead of beer. Perugia was designated as the “chocolate city” for a festival promoting its consumption and praise.

In Umbria, the green heart (“il cuore verde”) of Italy, the medieval town of Perugia will become chocolate October 19-28. The Eurochocolate Festival is a sensual feast! Eat chocolate to your heart’s content, be stunned by the city’s chocolate makeover, wonder at chocolate sculpture, embrace global cacao through history, shop the Chocostore, opt for a chocolate facial in the subterranean, attend a lecture, succumb to a three course chocolate-laced degustation by a local chef.
Possibilities abound! Engage Eurochocolate as often as you like! Walk off those certain calories wandering medieval hill towns, visit nearby Umbrian or Tuscan cities. Be humbled by the love and legacy of Saint Francis in Assisi. In Preggio, see the town hail the chestnut October 19-21.
