If you love all things Tiki, you will love  the annual event celebrating Tiki Cocktails, Mid-Century Kitsch, and All Things Vintage. Tiki Week is a series of events hosted by the Dallas chapter of the United States Bartenders Guild (USBG).

The cornerstone event of the week will be Saturday, June 15th at 8:00pm with the Texas debut of Charles Phoenix and his Addicted to Americana Tour. The Ambassador of Americana celebrates classic and kitschy American Life. Join Charles on a tour of all things retro-pop with his slideshow featuring local landmarks, roadside wonders, festive fashions, and crazy car culture.

Your spirit will soar and your imagination will be inspired. Charles Phoenix is a showman, author, and tour guide. This one of a kind event is brought to you by Cuervo Tequila, Three Olives Vodka and Swizzle Luau Lounge.

Fans enjoy his genuine reverence, unique spin, and trust his guide to time-honored attractions from coast to coast. New York Times says, “Call him the King of Retro”. His latest book is “Addicted to Americana.”

Tickets for either VIP or General Admission can be purchased Here

Education and Celebrations are Key

Members of the USBG can participate in educational events and celebrations throughout the week. Rum Tastings from Mount Gay and Don Q, a volleyball tournament at Sandbar Cantina in Deep Ellum and a Poolside Luau at Circo Beach Club in Uptown are some of a few. The Bartender Tiki Cocktail Competition at Ruins in Deep Ellum Tuesday, June 11 at 8:00pm is a highlight of the week’s events.

Members are encouraged to craft their take on Classic Tiki Cocktails for a chance to win a trip to Tales of the Cocktail, an annual conference and festival that brings together a worldwide cocktail and hospitality community, sponsored by Don Q Rum.

This event is open to the public. Come out and sample cocktails from each competitor, light bites and Don Q cocktail specials concocted by the amazing Ruins team.

Home Bartenders Join the Party

For the first time in Dallas Tiki Week history, come out to the Tiki  Home Bartender Competition on Thursday, June 13th at 5:00pm at Gung Ho on Lower Greenville. Unleash your inner Tiki Bartender for a chance to win some great prizes including bar tools from Cocktail Kingdom and Tiki Cocktail books and glassware from Beachbum Berry. The top recipe receives a bottle of Rhum JM.

Sip, Shop, Enjoy

Saturday 12:00pm-5:00pm, head over to Industry Alley Bar in The Cedars for the Swizzle’s Waipuna Tiki Flea. You can Sip crafted Tiki cocktails by  Special Guest Bartender Mark Hooper, Shop Tiki Art, Vintage collectibles, and clothing, while listening to the swanky sounds of DJ Mark A.

Then Sunday wind down with The Cocktails and Cannonballs Pool Party at The Belmont Hotel in Oak Cliff. Enjoy an afternoon of cocktails from Campari and Appleton Estates.

If you come out to the events, make sure to take advantage of the central locations accessible by DART light rail Cedars Station and Deep Ellum Station, or the central ride-share drop-off/pick-up points in Deep Ellum and South Lamar.

Uniting the hospitality community to advance professional bartending.

USBG  encourages bartenders to take charge of their careers. Tending and owning bars is an honorable career choice.

Since knowledge is power, chapters hold cocktail competitions, sponsor intimate seminars with internationally recognized brand representatives, and forge relationships between top bar talent in 50 cities and counting.

Members are offered opportunities to compete, travel around the world, and spread knowledge in the pursuit of elevating the craft. Pretty smart career choice. And it can be lucrative, too.
