CRUISE EDITOR Phyllis Steinberg never met a ship she didn’t like. She enjoys traveling and is an avid cruiser. From small boats that take passengers around the Galapagos Islands to massive cruise ships, like the new Queen Mary 2, Phyllis has sailed on all of the major cruise lines from Alaska to the Caribbean and Europe. She lives in Fort Lauderdale, 10 minutes from Port Everglades, one of the busiest ports in the world, and enjoys seeing the world, using a cruise ship as her hotel. Phyllis never tires of the sail-away parties on most cruise ships with the rum and punch parties and the reggae bands. She loves the bountiful buffets, gourmet dinners and singing in the karaoke bar after hours, even though she can’t carry a tune. She loves the wind in her hair, the roar of the ocean, meeting new people and exploring different destinations. She even enjoys going on a cruise to nowhere. The party atmosphere aboard cruise ships make her feel as if she is in a distant land, even if she is only 30 minutes from home. Phyllis has been a journalist for the past 20 years in the South Florida area and currently has a weekly food column in 20 newspapers with a circulation of more than 700,000. She recently co-authored the DK Eyewitness Guide to Central Florida. She is also the co-author of the DK Eyewitness Guide to Florida that was published in 1997 and has since been translated into seven languages. Phyllis is a member of the Society of American Travel Writers and has received an award from the Florida Press Association for feature writing. She has written numerous articles on travel and food for many national and international newspapers, magazines and websites. Cruising is Phyllis’ personal passion. She asks, “Where else can you see the world and only unpack once?” Phyllis can be reached at: PhyllisSteinberg@cs.com
