PICNIC PERFECT

Payard Patisserie & Bistro

by Madelyn Miller

What would be more romantic than a picnic in Central Park? Leave all the cooking to baker Francoise Payard and select a boxed pique-nique from Payard Patisserie & Bistro.

For $16.50 you get to choose from a selection of eight gourmet sandwiches as part of the three course picnic . My favorite is foie gras and fig chutney on house-baked brioche, but you might prefer the pan bagnat with tuna, olives, and eggs. Each feast also includes mixed greens, seasonal fruit salad, a bottle of mineral water, and your choice from the three fruit tarts (rhubarb, cherry or lemon).

This could also serve as a power lunch from a conference room window overlooking the park or another New York vista.

Too busy for lunch? Start your day with breakfast at Payard Patisserie & Bistro. The truffled scrambled eggs are to die for (and that is not because of the cholesterol count).

The charmingly indulgent breakfast ends with chocolates. Some people know how to live.
