Living it up in Las VegasEat, Drink and… Well, You Know!By Dave Shultz There are two things you can count on when you visit Las Vegas. Things are always changing and things are always the same. Las Vegas is constantly changing and re-inventing itself to be bigger, better and more fun. It’s also exactly what you go to Vegas for, lights, casinos, entertainment, beautiful people and fantastic food. So no matter how much it changes, it’s always the same.
Las Vegas is famous for its buffets are buffets are great for sampling lots of different types of food and getting more than you really need but when you want a menu driven dining experience there’s no shortage of fine restaurants available either. The strip offers something for everyone or, you can take a short jaunt off the strip for a fantastic evening at Bahama Breeze. Head east on Flamingo Street and step into Caribbean dining at its finest. From the minute you pull into the spacious parking lot you’ll feel like you’ve escaped to the islands for the evening. The atmosphere is relaxed and laid back but quality is paramount.
Try the Fire Roasted Jerk Shrimp for a starter. The garlic-Thyme butter sauce is outstanding, especially when you soak it up with Cuban bread. The Sun Ripened Tomato Salad combines red grape, yellow pear and beefsteak tomatoes and is seasoned with a mouth watering citrus cilantro vinaigrette that shouldn’t be missed. A good dish for two is the Seafood Paella. This is a traditional Caribbean casserole with shrimp, bay scallops, mussels, chicken, fresh fish, Spanish sausage and peas cooked with moist and flavorful yellow rice.
If you still have room, order the Chocolate Island. More than enough for two, it has rich chocolate mousse on a brownie island surrounded by milk chocolate sauce and vanilla bean anglaise. A chocolate lover’s paradise! Or, as an alternative, try the Welcome to the Island dessert. A warm rich chocolate cake with a chocolate molten center topped with caramelized pineapple, raspberry sauce, butterscotch brandy sauce and fresh whipped cream. Both of these have their devotees among the staff and either way, you can’t go wrong! Check out the drink menu too! There are more exotic combinations than there are parotheads at a Jimmy Buffet concert. Boat Drinks, give me Boat Drinks! Bahama Breeze is a great dining experience worth planning an evening around. Who can visit Las Vegas without seeing one or two of the incredible shows? Be sure to visit the Paris Hotel and Casino to see The Producers, Mel Brooks' musical comedy that has won more awards than any show in history! It stars Tony Danza as Max Bialystock, a down on his luck theatrical producer. We knew Tony could act but now we know he can also sing and dance. The theater is beautiful and the staging is right out of Broadway. This fast paced show will leave you clamoring for more when the curtain finally falls. PS, most people don’t know they offer a great dinner package. Ask about it when you book tickets.
There are lots of ‘revues’ on the strip but the biggest and best has to be Donn Arden's Jubilee showing at Bally’s. This is the 25th anniversary of this seven act spectacular. The million dollar sets are beyond description and with almost 100 performers, this show will leave you breathless. Of course, the fifty topless showgirls will leave anyone breathless. You’ll be amazed at how quickly the massive sets are in place and costumes are changed for the next act. There isn’t a bad seat in the house and this is Las Vegas at its best.
