How About a Free Visit to a Caribbean Beach?Visit the St. Croix Beach Web Cam in FrederikstedThanks to the internet, people all over the world can visit the palm-fringed white sand beach in Frederiksted, St. Croix via “The St. Croix Beach Cam”, a new webcam located at Frederiksted’s Beachside Café. The Beach Cam, managed by GotoStCroix.com, launched on November 1, 2004.
GotoStCroix.com introduced their first webcam, located in Christiansted, one of the islands two historic towns, three years ago. Success and interest from visitors to the site led them to launch another webcam on the west end of the verdant island.
“For the past three years, people have been logging onto www.gotostcroix.com to get their daily dose of sunshine from the original Christiansted Harbor Cam, where boats, people, palms, and the seaplane drift in and out of the live image,” said Wendy Solomon, Founder of www.GotoStCroix.com, “Now, with the launch of the new St. Croix Beach Cam, people can also see the beautiful beach and clear blue sea from the west coast of St. Croix.”
The St. Croix Beach Cam is on-line 24 hours a day, refreshes approximately every 30 seconds and is mounted at Beachside Café, located inside Sandcastle on the Beach in Frederiksted, about a mile east of the pier. Signs will be placed, visible from the beach, that gives directions on where to stand for the viewer to get the best image.
“This is an interactive, innovative way to promote St. Croix as the idyllic tourism destination,” commented Ric Carrington of the US Virgin Islands Department of Tourism, “I always see visitors standing in front of the Harbor cam, waving to their friends who are logged onto www.gotostcoix.com. With the Beach cam, people can now show their friends our beautiful beaches. It’s a brilliant way to build excitement and awareness of St. Croix.”
www.GoToStCroix.com is produced entirely by residents of St. Croix, who write articles, take photographs and cover all the events around the island. Now in it’s 4th year, www.GoToStCroix.com receives 1.5 million page views per month by approximately 35,000 individual viewers. The popularity of the original Christiansted Harbor Cam can attribute to more than 15,000 of those 35,000 visitors. Fans of the webcam have many reasons for using it: to see friends and family, to check the weather, to anticipate their vacation, to relive their vacation, to stay in touch with their native home. Advertisers on the webpage support the webcam. More information about St. Croix and the original Christiansted Harbor Cam, and the new St. Croix Beach Cam is available online at www.gotostcroix.com.
