Top of the Hub-Boston
Best Romantic Rendezvous Spot to ‘Pop the
Question’
By Fran Folsom
This is a wake up call for all men involved in a long
term relationship. If Cupid, or, better yet, your mother, is saying, “You
have been with her for five years. Enough already, marry her!” Then guys
it’s time to tie the knot, strap on the old ball and chain, take the plunge,
in other words, ‘pop the question.’
Such a special event calls for someplace lofty and
romantic. Boston’s Top of the Hub restaurant on the 52nd floor of the
Prudential Tower, with its spectacular views, elegant décor and wonderful
food, fits the bill in that department.
Chef Dean Moore, who holds a degree in Culinary Arts from Johnson and Wales
College, uses fresh, local ingredients for his innovative menu. Choices
might include Atlantic salmon fillets with caviar vinaigrette or medallions
of veal with porcini mushrooms and bacon, or, maple smoked duck cob salad.
It is no wonder that Top of the Hub has received Wine
Spectator’s Award of Excellence five years in a row. And, was voted Best
Secret Rendezvous for 2002 by the Improper Bostonian. This place puts dining
at a whole new level.
What follows is a lesson in Romance 101. Pay attention
here guys, take notes and remember these words when making your reservation;
flowers, champagne, corner table by the window. It all adds up to a romantic
evening.
Now, let’s set the
scene. You arrive just before sunset, in the lounge you order martinis made
the James Bond way – shaken, not stirred. Surrounding you, the incredible
views of Boston and its skyline.
The best part of the evening comes later at your corner
table.
After a wonderful dinner you give the word to your
attentive waitstaff and suddenly there’s flowers, champagne and you at her
side, on one knee, your outstretched hand cradles a small velvet box as you
whisper “I love you. Will you marry me?” With tears in her eyes she says,
“Yes, I will. I love you too.”
Cupid’s arrow hits its mark again. You made it a night
you will both remember forever. And, you get an A+ in Romance 101.
