My Cinco de Mayo by Madelyn Miller, the TravelLady During a 36 hour break between San Francisco and New York, I was lucky enough to be home in Dallas for Cinco de Mayo. Being home for even a short time is something to celebrate.
Cinco de Mayo is one of the most fun, most colorful and most festive of all the Mexican holidays. And since 51% of the Dallas population is Hispanic, we know how to party. The Mexican holiday of Cinco De Mayo commemorates the victory of the Mexicans over the French army at The Battle of Puebla in 1862. What better way to celebrate the fifth of May—and all summer—than with Mexico’s most famous export, tequila! Over a hundred people gathered at Southside on Lamar where I live. http://www.travellady.com/Issues/March04/600WhatDoestheTravelLadyDo.htm Each month residents of a different floor show off their lofts--kind of like a house tour under one roof. The events are open to the public and include free appetizers and drinks. For dates of the next event call 214-485-7526. One of the most novel lofts was owned by a photographer. Kerlly Williams had set up a backdrop and had ponchos and hats, Mexican sombreros and crepe paper decorations for props. Everyone really gets into the spirit and this was one of the best themes.
Of course I had to ham it up with the Mexican music group. They were so friendly and kept inviting me into their group for pictures. After the party warmed up, I even stuck my head into the signboard with a cutout for a jackass. Other good things on Cinco de Mayo: 1. My good Friend Edith Hall Friedheim's birthday 2. Yummy drinks like these tequila cocktails http://www.cocktailatlas.com/Cinco_de_Mayo_Cocktails/De_Mayo_Cocktails.htm The personalities Kelly Williams, Photography 323-854-1691 kelly@kellywilliamsphotography.com Ernesto's Music Classical Guitar, Flamenco, Mariachi, and Rock and Roll 469-384-8033 mariachi@ernestosmusic.com www.ernestosmusic.com
