Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest in Montego BayHeadliners of Weeklong Festival Are Beenie Man, Beres Hammond, Bounty Killer, Sizzla, Elephant Man, Wayne Marshall, Vybz Cartel and Tanto Metro & Devonte A thrilling line-up of reggae stars will be appearing at the Catherine Hall Entertainment Complex in Montego Bay from July 18 to 24 for the 12th annual Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest Festival. This weeklong festival is a major occasion on Jamaica’s calendar of annual music events, and always a spectacular presentation of the indigenous Jamaican music form immortalized by the late Bob Marley. Heading the bill are Beenie Man, Beres Hammond, Bounty Killer, Sizzla, Elephant Man, Wayne Marshall, Vybz Cartel and Tanto Metro & Devonte. First staged in August 1993, Reggae Sumfest was an immediate hit with locals and visitors alike, growing rapidly into the world’s premier reggae music event. The festival name was changed in 2001 to “Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest” when a partnership was forged by two major reggae promoters, Summerfest Productions and Red Stripe. A Family Affair Noting the family-friendly ambience of Sumfest, Director of Tourism Paul Pennicook commented, “Reggae’s appeal reaches all age groups, and Sumfest is an exciting time for families to experience first-hand the important role that music has always played in the Jamaican lifestyle, and in our rich cultural heritage.” For families planning a visit, Pennicook noted, “The huge range of accommodations in the Montego Bay area offers lots of options, and there are some excellent packages that make travel very affordable.” Value-Added Packages Affordable, value-added air-inclusive packages are offered by several companies: Details of upcoming special events, attractions and accommodations in Jamaica are posted on the Jamaica Tourist Board Web site at www.visitjamaica.com.
