A Day of DecadenceA Shopping Excursion in ParisParis is one of the glamour capitals of the world. Yet a day shopping in the ultra-stylish city has the potential to be a very daunting experience for the unsuspecting shopper. Difficulties with prices, sizes, language and just not knowing where to go to find what you want can quickly turn a dream shopping spree into an unproductive and frustrating waste of a precious day. Now there is a way to ensure that shopping in one of the chicest cities in the world is nothing but a pleasure. Discover Paris, a travel planning service specializing in customized, self-guided itineraries for visitors to the City of Light, has just launched a new service – a guided shopping excursion for “real-sized” women who wish to purchase lingerie and other clothing items in Paris.
The excursion is led by Robin, an American living in Paris who has personally researched the boutiques and shops on the tour. Robin, who calls herself a “woman of size”, has only included places where she herself would shop. Over a period of several months, she has identified boutiques that sell quality clothes and lingerie for large-sized women. She has selected shops where the sales personnel are skilled at making women feel at ease, turning the shopping experience into an enjoyable adventure.
After meeting the client at her hotel, Robin accompanies her on the half-day shopping excursion, which can include cosmetics and perfumes as well as clothes and lingerie if the client so desires. Robin’s working knowledge of French helps assure smooth communication between sales personnel and the client. Following the excursion, she and the client retire to a luxury Parisian salon de thé for a relaxing afternoon tea.
Because many French boutiques are small and because of the intimate nature of the items to be purchased, the “Day of Decadence” shopping excursion is limited to a maximum of three women. The date and time for each excursion is arranged by mutual agreement between the client and guide. Robin’s goal is to provide the client with an enjoyable shopping experience while sharing her knowledge about Paris and French culture.
Discover Paris has added “A Day of Decadence” to its growing list of personalized, guided activities. Other such activities include “Wine Adventures in Paris”, an “Epicurean Quarter” walking tour, and guided museum visits featuring “Black Images in European Art”. The company’s activities are created for discerning travelers who want personalized activities that group tours or guide books cannot provide.
