Think of your Heart all Year LongEdited by Madelyn Miller, the TravelLady February is Heart Month. While Medical City Dallas Heart promotes heart-healthy lifestyles year round, February is the month that Medical City Dallas Heart emphasizes this very important topic.
During February, Medical City is conducting several activities to commemorate American Heart Month: 1. 2007 Heart Healthy Booklet - Recently distributed by Medical City Heart, this booklet is full of ways to get your heart in shape. From suggesting lifestyle enhancement programs such as the Hearts & Soles mall walking club that makes it possible to stay fit no matter the weather, to heart-healthy "Restaurants to Know by Heart" and "Healthy Recipes Kids Love," this booklet is packed with heart-healthy ideas. 2. Mother/Daughter Heart-Healthy Cooking Classes - On Feb. 6, Medical City Heart and Central Market are teaming up to host a heart-healthy cooking class for mothers and daughters from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Central Market at 5750 E. Lovers Lane. Featuring the hospital's executive chef and all of the best seasonal ingredients, this is the first in a series of cooking classes offered by Medical City Heart and Central Market.
3. Ask A Specialist Station at White Rock Lake - Back by popular demand, "Ask A Specialist" at White Rock Lake begins again on Feb. 10. Walkers, runners and cyclists can learn more about personal health by stopping by Medical City's Ask a Specialist health information station, located on the south side of W. Lawther Drive between Branchfield Drive and Fisher Road. The Feb. 10 event will emphasize heart health, and the post will be staffed by specialists from Medical City such as physicians, nurses, registered dieticians, physical therapists, exercise physiologists and others. The station will be set up from 8 to 11 a.m. on the second Saturday of each month through June.
4. Heart-Healthy Seminar at Body Worlds Exhibit - On Feb. 13, associated with the Body Worlds exhibit at the Museum of Nature and Science, Medical City Heart is sponsoring a free public seminar that focuses on heart health beginning at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Allan Anderson, a cardiologist at Medical City, will speak about medical advances in the detection and diagnosis of cardiovascular disease. Register by calling 972-566-2333. Registration does not include visiting the exhibit. Those who register by 5 p.m., Monday, Feb.12, will be entered in a drawing for two complimentary admission tickets to the Body Worlds exhibit. The Museum of Nature and Science is located at 1318 S.
