You are invited to

A Wedding with a Wacky Ending

by Madelyn Miller

Miller is a fairly common name. Years ago, my ex-husband and I were invited to a wedding by someone who had a cousin with the same name as my ex-husband.  At first, we thought perhaps we were related to them. We checked with each of families to be sure they weren't relatives.

So we sent back a nice note saying thanks for inviting us--but we are not sure you know us. My mother taught me to always write  RSVP notes. The couple must have liked our note, so they insisted we come anyway. I thought it would be really, really fun to go to a wedding of someone we did not know. My husband said absolutely not. That is probably just one of the reasons we are divorced. I should have told him it was one of my relatives. He never would have known the difference.

So imagine my excitement when I got this invitation:  You’re invited to come celebrate with dinner, dancing, and the new family. TONY N’ TINA’S WEDDING is an interactive, catered dining event where the audience truly is the wedding party. The fun part starts with the ceremony and then leads to the reception where the cast delivers a different performance each night, based on how the “guests” interact with them. With this creative, warm, and hilarious improvisation TONY N’ TINA’S WEDDING has become the longest running Off-Broadway production in history. “Just like a real wedding, only funnier,” says The Chicago Tribune.

I love this idea. You get a great dinner, wedding cake, and you don't have to pretend to be nice to the relatives you really can't stand. You don't have to worry about their china pattern and if they will like the gift you brought.

TONY N’ TINA’S WEDDING returns to  Dallas due to popular demand following its triumphant 2001 visit. Does this mean they got divorced and are trying again like Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton? Or are they renewing their vows? Getting married twice seems a lot trendier today. Actually not getting married at all seems to be most popular. Will Tony and Tina actually do the deed? (I mean get married) Get a ticket soon and you will see.

THE BACHELORETTE PARTY

Don’t miss out on all the fun at Tina’s Bachelorette Party at Dick’s Last Resort, 2211 N. Lamar Street at Houston at the gateway to Victory Park in Dallas Friday, February 1 from 6-8 p.m. For more information call 214-747-0001. Word is there will be a male stripper at the bachelorette party. That is just the kind of thing you would expect at Dick's Last Resort. Since I have theatre tickets to the Monterey Jazz that night, I can't go to the Bachelorette Party. http://www.travellady.com/Issues/Jan08/4694Monterey.htm

I asked if there was any chance of getting the male stripper. Word is Tina plans on getting the stripper and you better not fight her for it, because she is very connected.
