Cinema-Inspired Hotel Bijou

If you love movies as
much as I do, you will love the Hotel Bijou. It lets you eat, drink and sleep
movies.
Located at Union
Square, the Hotel Bijou is a distinctive Joie de Vivre hotel, uniquely themed to
celebrate San Francisco's rich cinematic history. A mini-theater built
just off the lobby, a candy concession built into the front desk and a 24-hour
film hotline combine to create a unique haven for admirers of film.
Cleverly designed by
Bay Area designer Oren Bronstein, the interior of the Hotel Bijou showcases a
jewel-toned lobby, movie palace stylings and dramatic Hollywood portraits by
Tamara de Lempicka. The rich color palate continues into the Bijou's
hallways and guestrooms to create a playfully stylish atmosphere evocative of
the traditional movie house. Each guestroom is named after a motion
picture shot in San Francisco (such as Vertigo, Harold and Maude, and Jagged
Edge), with corresponding movie stills as decorative room accents.
Striking black & white photographs of San Francisco's historic movie palaces
are hung on the guestroom walls, paying a fitting tribute to the City's classic
theaters, including the recently closed Alhambra and Royal theaters.
Built in 1911, the
Hotel Bijou is an historic landmark itself, and offers unique services and
amenities designed with film-lovers in mind. Extending from the lobby is
"Le Petit Theatre Bijou" a miniature theater classically adorned
with velvet curtains, sconces and antique Deco theater seats -- where selections
from the hotel's library of 65 San Francisco films are featured daily for guests
enjoyment. Near the reception desk stands a handcrafted chrome ticket
booth offering guests a 24-hour hotline to current San Francisco filmings and
casting opportunities for "extras".
The Hotel Bijou is
Joie de Vivre's sixth hotel in the Union Square area. Infusing an appreciation
for art and the unconventional, Joie de Vivre has built a reputation for
creating adventurous, trend-setting hotels.. Other Joie de Vivre properties
include the literary Hotel Rex, the rock n' roll Phoenix, and new hotels in
Marin County and the Silicon Valley.
