For some time, Henry Kallan considered making a change, but when reservations statistics showed a decrease in requests for smoking accommodations, he knew the time had come.   Starting with the Elysee, voted the most romantic hotel in New York, Kallan initiated a smoke-free policy. According to Kimberly Watson, Director of Sales and Marketing at the Elysee, “we had braced ourselves for a small backlash from a low percentage of customers who have stayed with us regularly for years, whom we had noted in guest history as being smokers.” Instead, guests of the luxurious country French-styled hotel applauded the new policy. With such a positive response, HK’s other properties - the Hotel Giraffe, the Library Hotel and the Casablanca – followed suit.
  The Hotel Giraffe’s award-winning guestrooms feature antique furnishings, 10 foot ceilings and black & white photos from the era of the 20s and 30s. Although there are no available areas inside the building, smoking is still permitted on the lovely roof garden terrace. Additionally, more than two-thirds of the Giraffe’s guestrooms have Juliette balconies which provide some outdoor space for smokers.
  The Library Hotel is a book lover’s paradise. Each of the 10 guestroom floors is named for the major categories of the Dewey Decimal system: Social Sciences, Literature, Languages, History, Math & Science, General Knowledge, Technology, Philosophy, The Arts and Religion. As with the Giraffe, its rooftop terrace is available for the convenience of guests who smoke.
  One of New York’s most popular hotels, the Casablanca’s name and Moroccan design were inspired by the movie classic. There, smokers can also enjoy a glass of their favorite beverage in the property’s courtyard.
