I am a naturalized Texas citizen after living in Texas for nearly 35 years. But my love of Texas is no less than those native born. When I moved here, the rule was if you lived in Texas by choice for five years you were a native. Few other states are as welcoming. I have collected enough cowboy boots to shoe a whole posse of cowboys.

I was born in Chicago to parents who had never been west of Illinois. My mother cooked gourmet meals and we ate out more frequently than any of our friends.
There was no reason to believe I would grow up to be a cowgirl. I married someone from the Midwest and only got to Texas because he was drafted.
It was a world I might not have discovered if we had not been stationed in San Antonio. Both my children were born in Texas, so they are true Texans.
