Posh Passover: Where are you eating your Sedar?

by Madelyn Miller, the TravelLady

To me Passover is the most delicious holiday of the year. A sedar with four glasses of wine, ceremonial tasting, and then a meal almost big enough to last 8 days (Ooops- I guess that was Chanukah and the oil that lasted that long)

Special candies, special desserts, all kinds of special things start dancing in my head when you say Passover.

I should say my mother's Passover dinner is the best. But when I was growing up, my father's large extended family had a sedar every year--usually at a hotel or restaurant because dozens of people came. So I don't think she ever cooked a sedar.

When my ex-husband and I moved to Dallas, a couple we met the first weekend in town invited us to their home and then sedar at their house became a tradition for my children. Sue Sereboff's chopped liver is legendary and the strawberry Jell-O mold was the best.

Recently, a chef and cookbook author invited me to her house for dinner. I would go in a minute except she lives thousands of miles away. But when I read the recipes, my mouth started salivating.

This morning I got an email with the Passover menu at one of my favorite restaurants: davidburke and donatella. Just read this and you will wish that Passover came more than once a year

Madelyn Miller is a travel and food writer whose favorite place to eat in New York is davidburke and donatella. But recently she stayed at the Palazzo in Las Vegas and kept walking by David Burke Las Vegas restaurant in the Venetian. On her last lunch--she went in for a bento box. Having David Burke in two parts of the country is like discovering stereo.
