Guest Artists from Houston's Second Generation Dance Company
Showcased at Latino Cultural Center

I have been hearing rave reviews about Dallas Black Dance Theatre but have not yet seen any of their performances. But the next one is one I cannot miss.

Dallas Black Dance Theatre and The Macy's Foundation have teamed to present "Spring Fiesta," an array of vibrant and energetic dance performances featuring DBDT II, the second performing company consisting of Dallas Black Dance Theatre. This festive event will take place on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at the Latino Cultural Center. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The Spring Fiesta series will showcase versatile, stylized works by DBDT II director, Allyne D. Gartrell and an array of nationally recognized choreographers including the world-renown Christopher Huggins, Rodni Williams and capricious choreographer Edmond Giles. A reception hosted by Regions Bank will immediately follow the performance.

About Dallas Black Dance Theatre

Founded by artistic director Ann Williams in 1976, Dallas Black Dance Theatre is a non-profit organization with a mission to create and produce contemporary modern dance at its highest level of artistic excellence through performances and educational programs that bridge cultures and reach diverse communities. Celebrating its 31st season, DBDT is the oldest, continuously operating professional dance company in Dallas. The ensemble, a contemporary modern dance company, consists of 12 professional, full-time dancers performing a mixed repertory of modern, jazz, ethnic and spiritual works by nationally and internationally known choreographers. Over the course of its history, the Dallas Black Dance Theatre has performed for 1.5 million arts patrons worldwide, including 40,000 children. DBDT will be the resident ballet company at the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre when the Center opens Fall 2009.

"MACY'S Foundation continues as the presenting sponsor of this series for the second consecutive year," said Ed Smith, Macy's Regional Vice President of Public Relations, Special Events & Community Affairs. " We have a long history of support and commitment to the arts as well as minority initiatives, so our long-standing sponsorship of DBDT, one of the nation's foremost dance companies, is a perfect fit."
