If you enjoy almost there adventures and a real hands on experience, The French Pastry School offers a variety of baking and cooking adventures in its Tasting Series. These classes make a perfect gift and create special evenings with friends or first (and second!) dates. The Pastry School is located within Kennedy-King College at City Colleges of Chicago, IL.

DimitriFayard_0Award Winning Chefs  Two hour demonstrations by award winning Chef Instructors will show you, not only how to make classic French recipes but also, how to enjoy all of this good food like a true “Bon Vivant.” In an intimate and relaxed setting, you will learn from and interact with chefs as they demonstrate a selection of recipes and guide you through a tasting that will open your eyes to the many facets of flavor.

champagne 2Toast your companion with a glass of champagne or well paired dessert wine – a perfect, fun way to end a beautiful day or start an enchanting night out in the city.

Monthly Demonstrations  The French Pastry School offers these demonstrations about once a month on Friday nights (6-8PM) – space is limited so be sure to sign up well in advance. The cost of the class is $75 per person and includes a demonstration, tastings of all recipes prepared, a beverage pairing, and a gift to take home.* The recipes will be available in printed or electronic form. All attendees must be 21 years of age and over. The dress code is smart casual; jeans are permitted.

pastry 9April 19th, 2012: Classic Bistro Desserts: A Menu of French Favorites  In this session of the Tasting Series your chef will present the following recipes and pair them with dessert wine:

  • Crème Caramel or Flan;
  • Floating Islands (Meringue in Tahitian Vanilla Crème Anglaise);
  • Panna Cotta;
  • Dessert Wine Pairing 

pastry 6May 10, 2013: The Incredible Crêpe: Sweet and Savory Samplings  In this session your chef will present the following recipes and pair them with champagne:

  • The Classics Crêpes: Butter, Vanilla, and Turbinado Sugar or Nutella;
  • Orange and Caramel Crêpe Flambée Suzette;
  • Savory Wet Cured Ham and Cheese Buckwheat Crêpe;
  • Savory Basque Sausage and Egg; Buckwheat Crêpe;
  • Champagne Pairing

jamJune 7, 2012: The Joy of Summer Canning and Preserving  In this session your chef will pair the following recipes with champagne and homemade breads:

  • Strawberry and Bourbon-Vanilla Jam;
  • Navel Orange Marmalade;
  • Classic Dill Pickles;
  • Pineapple, Mango, and Curry Chutney;
  • Tasting Paired with Homemade Breads and Champagne

If you cancel prior to 48 hours before class begins, the cost of the class will be refunded in full.  There are no refunds issued when fewer than 48 hours notice from the class start is given.
